Inclusive Education in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy, is offered on the Columba Catholic College Primary Campus. The Inclusive Education Team consists of two teachers and number of school officers across P – 6. Literacy intervention from Prep to Year 2 consists of learning explicit reading and writing strategies, and helping students to build phonological and phonemic awareness.
Numeracy intervention and extension focuses on specific skills required for Mathematics and computational thinking. Purposeful groups for Numeracy are offered in Years 3 and 5. Students are grouped according to their personal skill-set and taught to their level of ability.
The MacqLit Literacy Intervention Program is offered from Years 4 - 6. MacqLit is an explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of older children. It provides a comprehensive sequence of lessons that includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
